Course Description

This course presents the major risk management areas and legal
pitfalls encountered in current everyday clinical practices.

The objectives of this course are:

  • to teach risk management principles.
  • to review current developments in liability prevention.
  • to recommend solution strategies.

The curriculum will address “hot spots” in malpractice. Upon completion
of this course, participants will be better equipped to deal
with the tensions that arise in clinical practice and will become more
knowledgeable about areas where mental health practice interfaces
with the law.

The curriculum will anticipate problematic areas of clinical work and
help in the development of coping strategies for use by physicians
and mental health clinicians. Unique features of this course include
vantage points of practicing clinicians and plaintiff and defense
attorneys. The format will allow for audience questions and discussion
with the faculty.

This course is offered separately or in conjunction with The
Practitioner in Court: A Survival Guide.
